Push More Buttons Presents: Sunday Digs™ 021
Happy Cinco De Mayo, Friends! It’s Sunday and a fresh set of digs are here to keep you company while you do your thing today. This week we have a nice mix of trap, beats, and even some electro. I’m a huge fan of Butch Clancy and his new Rihanna Stay Remix is fire. Butch manages to inject some horrific sounding kicks and snares that almost sound like they are clipping but make them all...

Push More Buttons Presents: Sunday Digs™ 020
Happy Sunday Folks. This week I bring you some nice bass tunes with some nice catchy hooks. My personal favorite this week is On The Edge by Angel Haze. This track has it all bass, 8-bit, hip hop samples, and of some hilarious trash talk (“I think my album is more done than yours and I just started a week ago”). Diplo murders this beat with the lead synths and stabs. The remaining...

Review: Traktor Kontrol Stand
Native Instruments recently introduced the new Traktor Kontrol Stand. While I am not typically the type of person who cares much for cases and DJ bags this particular stand really caught my attention.[[MORE]]
The stand is made from what appears to be the same solid aluminum that tops of the F1, X1, and Maschine. It feels both light and solid all at once, this is key for transporting in your...

Hey hey. Another beautiful Spring Sunday, another set of digs. This week we have a few nice tracks. Some heavy hitters but also some nice melodic chopped up hip hop beats. Traktor Kontrol Z2 Performance Mappings (Free...
A few weeks ago I posted my Traktor Kontrol Z2 routine, since then I’ve finished up the custom mappings for the Z2 and the Maschine. This post will focus on the Z2 mappings while a later post will have the Maschine MKII mappings. The Z2 has quite a bit of functionality already built in but I wanted to add a few items that I felt would be deal breakers had I not added them. Grab the mappings...

It’s a beautiful cloudy day in LA today. This week the digs focus on some smooth mellow trap blended in with some hip hop instrumentals that are reminiscent of some good ole MPC style beats. Push More Buttons Presents: Sunday Digs™ 013
Hey Hey. Happy Sunday everyone. This week I wanted to do something a bit different. See while I was digging throughout the week for the very special few tracks for this week I fell so far down the rabbit hole of new artists that I came across a 20 year old producer from Belgium named “Houcemate.” His style is unique and quite beautiful in the beat / trap game. I loved his diversity so...

DJ Shadow, keeping it real for decades and how we...
DJ Shadow is perhaps one of the most prominent figures in the development of instrumental hip hop. On a higher level he’s a DJ’s DJ, the kind of DJ most aspire to be but don’t have the patience to dig and dig and dig. What’s in a setup? Does it have to be 2 turntables and a mixer, or perhaps a truck load of modular midi controllers. Nope… It just has to be something that allows you to take people on a musical journey. In this case it happens to be a 23 year old tape machine.[[MORE]]

The Next Soundcloud. Why You Should Care.
The way we share our music and look for new music has drastically changed since I was young. Mind you, I’m only 29. Back in the day I remember sitting in front of the radio with my Maxell 90min tape. Previewing and capturing for hours was my joy on the weekends. The result was me building a library of tunes that I would share with friends and family. Fast forward over a decade and my entire...

Happy Sunday Everyone. I’d like to kick off this Lazy Sunday with a new download series. The New Traktor Mixer?
Well we still don’t quite known what the new Traktor piece of gear is but judging by the video it appears to be a 2-channel mixer with a row of push button effects. This seems to be targeting the CDJ/Turntable crowd. It could possibly be a dedicated mixer when not connected to the software?[[MORE]]

NI is in Labor and they are having a Traktor Baby
New Traktor baby coming at ya tomorrow and in typical NI fashion they have decided to tease at their new concoction which appears to be some sort of hardware unit. Until NI releases a video we can only speculate. What do you think it is?

Traktor Kontrol F1 Tutorial: How to Build Song...
When Native Instruments launched Remix Decks and the Traktor Kontrol F1 people went bananas over the possibilities. Remix Decks remind me of Photoshop; a ton of different ways to do the same task. That task being a live remix or performance element. In this tutorial I show you how to use a Remix Deck to well… Remix. Instead of loading your empty cells with various loops and one shots, this...

I always tend to make the best tunes in solitude but this isn’t always the case. I’ve also made some of the best music and mixes while collaborating with friends. I also find that when I collaborate with other DJ and Producers I have the most fun and create things that are outside of my comfort zone. I believe this is true for everyone. Get Inspired
Inspiration can come from any source. I’m a strong believer in just diving into a mix, production, or routine instead of wasting time on inspiration. However, some things we witness leave a mark and push us to create new exciting pieces. Therefore, it is when inspiration works it’s magic and continues to drive us to complete ideas that makes it a powerful tool. With that said,...
